A backyard patio, for example, primarily supports people, furniture, grills, and other outdoor living features, while a driveway must regularly support the weight and movement of vehicles. Those surfaces don’t place the same demands on the foundation beneath them, which is why a one-size-fits-all approach to paver installation doesn’t make sense.
Proper base preparation helps create a stable foundation, distribute loads, and reduce the potential for movement, settling, and uneven surfaces over time. Rather than comparing proposals based solely on square footage and paver selection, ask how the contractor intends to prepare and construct the foundation beneath the project.
